Chief Operations Officer at ETS , Inc. Hometown: Syracuse, NY Age: 32 Education: B.A. SUNY Geneseo 2013

ETS placement service has been working with North Country businesses for more than 40 years — before Jesse Krell was born. Jesse attended SUNY Geneseo and was an All-American in Track and Field. The focus and determination it took to earn that designation serves him well as he strives to “create an environment that optimizes the growth and professional development of the next generation of leaders at ETS.”

How do you contribute to the culture of your company? I believe a culture of high performance is one that ultimately achieves the best results for its customers and employees. I set a very high standard. I believe in people and more importantly in the potential of people, and I push myself and those around me to be the best version of themselves.

What are you doing to make a difference in your community? I’m fortunate to have the opportunity in my role at ETS to make a significant contribution to our community through our non-profit training program, Ready4Real. This training is having tangible, positive outcomes and I believe it is a small but necessary step in creating a healthier and more vibrant community.

What is the single most important characteristic for success? Knowing yourself.

What is your biggest professional success? Talent Development. Seeing someone grow and reach their full potential and beyond is the true benchmark for me. During my time at ETS, there have been many of these stories both by people I still work with and those who have chosen to move on to new challenges.

What important lesson have you learned in your career? You can’t be all things to all people. Set a vision for what you want to achieve, surround yourself with talent who challenge your assumptions, move on from situations and people who don’t align with your vision, execute, iterate. Repeat.

What is your dream job? A Petting Zoo Owner

What is the biggest risk you have ever taken? I actually ended up attending Geneseo after a casual conversation with a friend. I applied, but did no research and didn’t visit the campus before I started my first day of classes.

What is something that no one would guess about you? My younger brother is a Grammy winning, multi-platinum music producer.

Write a note to your younger self… “Momento Mori”. Tomorrow is never promised. Live and act accordingly.

What can the North Country do to make this area more appealing to a younger generation? Adopt an abundance mindset over a scarcity mindset. In other words, we all do better when we all do better. Your success does not hinder my success. An environment where everyone’s success is celebrated and encouraged is an environment that attracts and retains talent, businesses and good fortune.
