Town of Plattsburgh, Town Clerk; Small Business Owner-ADK Yard Cards Hometown: Chicago, IL Age: 39 Education: BA – Northern Illinois University

Katie Kalluche, affectionately known as “KK”, has brought a new level of energy and enthusiasm to this region. Hailing from Chicago, known as the “Windy City” referencing both a tornado and politicians, Katie works at a whirlwind pace, blending her unique positivity and customer-centric sensibilities. Her commitment to family and community shows in all she does.

How do you contribute to the culture of your company? I try to stay friendly and approachable and because my role is facilitating a window to our town government, I enjoy fulfilling that responsibility.

What are you doing to make a difference in your community? I am proud to be serving in local government alongside involvement in various community organizations. I have been a Rotarian for eight years where we provide resources through service and funding to community members. Currently I am serving my second year as president of the Cumberland Head Elementary School PTO and I also serve the Adirondack Down Syndrome Association.

What is the single most important characteristic for success? Gumption.

What is your biggest professional success? Being elected Town Clerk for the Town of Plattsburgh has been my greatest honor yet!

What important lesson have you learned in your career? I heard something recently that resonated with me and I want more young people to embrace. Failure is not the opposite of success. It is a part of success.

What is your dream job? I love being able to help people, so I’m most happy doing that. My career has evolved from customer service to being a nanny then also a server/bartender while simultaneously in customer service. In the car industry I was a Finance Manager assisting car buyers and now as Town Clerk I’m serving the public. I think I’ve had my dream jobs all my life.

What is the biggest risk you have ever taken? Moving to Plattsburgh from Chicago sticks out to me most! Although, I feel like ALL moves are risky, professionally and personally. I’m glad I’ve taken them all.

What is something that no one would guess about you? I needlepoint! Cross stitch is my jam.

Write a note to your younger self… Dear Katie, Be yourself. Love, older Katie.

What can the North Country do to make this area more appealing to a younger generation? I think increased entertainment options are important. I am certain that a significant deciding factor for many young people is “What is there to do?” Not all of us are avid outdoors people, and although this area offers a TON of outdoor recreational opportunities, I think a focus on entertainment style venues for all ages will greatly enhance our appeal.
